"Nonviolence is the answer to the crucial political and moral questions of our time: the need for man to overcome oppression and violence without resorting to oppression and violence. Man must evolve for all human conflict a method which rejects revenge, aggression and retaliation. The foundation of such a method is love." -- Martin Luther King, Jr., Nobel Prize acceptance speech, Stockholm, Sweden, December 11, 1964.

Observation: Interpreting and expressing well, approach and presentation goes a long way in the corporate politics arena. Do the above skillfully; you will manage your environment and most situations well. However, if your motivations are guided only by a personal agenda and a leaning to exercise power over others, you will eventually experience a mental hell of your own creation. You may succeed for a while, but that success will be shallow and may not last because you have not built a strong foundation necessary for sustenance when the walls around you start to crumble.
